Pay Dirt: Organics Diversion Goes Mainstream

The Summit is a one day event that includes workshops, vendors, exhibitors, and networking opportunities with organics diversion experts and regulators. It is Vermont’s premier statewide annual event to learn about current issues, technologies and practices related to organics repurposing and recycling.
This year’s summit will include a two-part workshop on Community Composting. This decentralized approach to managing organics is gaining popularity across the country and already has broad support here in Vermont.

At the Summit you can learn the basics to set up and operate a Community Composting program or choose from other concurrent workshops morning and afternoon.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER, BRENDA PLATT

We are pleased to have Brenda Platt, co-director of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance as our keynote speaker. For 25 years Brenda has promoted waste reduction, recycling and composting, particularly recycling-based jobs. She is the author of several groundbreaking reports including Stop Trashing the Climate, and the May 2013 released Pay Dirt detailing the economic and environmental benefits from producing and using compost.

If you are a compost facility manager, researcher, engineer, contractor, landscaper, community leader, regulator, recycling or solid waste professional, policy maker, community volunteer, or educator with an interest in organics diversion, water quality, and soil health issues, please join us for a day of
networking and learning on April 3rd at Vermont Technical College, Randolph Center, Vermont.

VORS  offers education, discussion forums, networking and vendor outreach to help communities manage organic residuals* as a resource. The Summit brings together technical experts, regulators, community leaders and the general public interested in organics recycling issues - - from strategies for diverting these materials from landfills to improving soil fertility and watershed health by increasing the capture and reuse of nutrients in organic materials.

*Organic residuals, sometimes called ‘organics’ or ‘organic materials,’ refers to carbon-based materials –  horticulture/garden waste, food waste, manures,  paper products, etc.
